NWF State College to Host FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII Basketball Tournament from 2020-2022
NICEVILLE, FL -Northwest Florida State College was awarded the bid to serve as the host of the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII State Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament from 2020-2022. Director of Athletics Ramsey Ross presented the College's bid proposal during meetings at last month's tournament in Ocala, and it passed unanimously.
"Northwest Florida State College is thrilled to have the opportunity to host the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments starting next year," said Ross. "Since the opening of Raider Arena in 2011, our community has rallied around the prospect of one day hosting this tournament. Now that it is a reality for the next three years, we are fully committed to providing the best experience possible for all of the incredibly talented teams and student-athletes throughout our state."
The NJCAA Region VIII Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament is a single-elimination, predetermined bracket tournament with the men's winner advancing to the NJCAA Men's National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas and the women's winner advancing to the NJCAA Women's National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas.
The tournament, held on neutral grounds in the NWF State College Raider Arena, will consist of a quarterfinal round of eight teams, a semifinal round of four teams, and conclude with the championship matchups on Saturday. The tournament will welcome 16 total teams, featuring the champion and runner-up teams as determined by the Panhandle, Mid-Florida, Suncoast and Southern Conferences for both men and women.
"Raider Arena is recognized as one of the nation's finest athletic facilities. The Arena will serve as the perfect venue for the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament," said Dr. Devin Stephenson, NWF State College President. "The game-day atmosphere our college provides is fitting for our state's championship games and our entire college community is dedicated to making these tournaments The Best!"
NWF State College is no stranger to hosting big events. Raider Arena also serves as the host of the Emerald Coast Classic, an eight-team NCAA Division-I tournament that has featured programs from around the nation such as Virginia, Cincinnati, Iowa State, and many others since 2014.
"The knowledge our college's staff has gained in hosting one of the premier NCAA Division-I men's basketball tournaments in the country for the past five years is sure to enhance every aspect of the state tournament," said Ross.
