Bio

Taya Gibson enters her third season as an assistant coach with the Northwest Florida State College women's basketball program.

During the 2025-26 season, Gibson helped guide the Raiders to a 24-5 overall record and a 10-2 mark in Panhandle Conference play. Northwest Florida captured its eighth consecutive Panhandle Conference Championship while extending its streaks to nine straight postseason appearances and nine consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Tournament.

Gibson played a key role in the development of one of the conference's top rosters, helping mentor six All-Panhandle Conference selections. Khoudia Diagne and Jadah White both earned First Team All-Panhandle and All-FCSAA honors, while Diagne was also named Panhandle Conference Freshman of the Year and earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-America recognition.

In her first season with the Raiders in 2024-25, Gibson helped lead Northwest Florida back to the top of junior college basketball, capturing the program's third NJCAA National Championship with a 62-53 victory over Shelton State in the title game. The Raiders finished with a program-record 32-3 overall record, went 10-2 in conference play to win their seventh consecutive Panhandle Conference Championship, and finished as the FCSAA runner-up before making their championship run at the national tournament.

That championship team produced five All-Panhandle Conference selections, three All-FCSAA honorees, and three NJCAA All-Americans. Nevaeh Scott earned First Team All-America honors, Mekhia Chase was named Second Team All-American, and Deborah Davenport received Third Team All-America recognition.

Gibson joined the Northwest Florida coaching staff after serving as a graduate assistant at Tusculum University during the 2023-24 season.

Before beginning her coaching career, Gibson spent two seasons at Georgia Southern University. As a senior in 2022-23, she averaged 9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and recording three double-doubles in 22 starts. During her junior season, she averaged 8.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while leading the Sun Belt Conference in field goal percentage at 55.2 percent.

Prior to Georgia Southern, the Rome, Georgia, native played two seasons at Columbus State University, where she earned Peach Belt Conference All-Tournament honors in 2019. She averaged 12.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from Georgia Southern University in 2023 after receiving her Associate of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from East Georgia State College in 2020.
