Grant Stewart picks up second FCSAA Pitcher of the Week honor
By SAM GRUBENHOFF
Northwest Florida State's Grant Stewart is the Region 8 Pitcher of the Week. Again.
Stewart, a sophomore left-hander from Paxton, earned the nod after throwing a complete-game shutout against Chipola this past Friday. The contest went a full nine innings. Stewart allowed only six hits with five strikeouts. Only one of the hits he surrendered went for extra-bases.
Freshman Jake Randa secured the shutout for Stewart with a walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth.
The shutout was Stewart's third complete game of the season. He leads the Raiders with 62 1/3 innings pitched this season. He also leads the team in ERA (1.73), strikeouts (73) and wins (8).
He last earned recognition Feb. 4 with NJCAA DI Pitcher of the Week Honors.
Stewart and the Raiders (24-15 overall, 5-8 Panhandle Conference) return to action a 4 p.m. Thursday with a road contest against Tallahassee Community College.
