NWF Women Set for Region 8 Tournament
NICEVILLE, Fla. – Sporting a 19-1 record and the No. 2 ranking in the NJCAA, Northwest Florida women's basketball is set to take on Eastern Florida in the FCSAA/Region VIII Tournament on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Raiders enter as the tournament's top seed after claiming the Panhandle Conference title for the third consecutive year and have won 28 of their last 29 games.
Under Panhandle Coach of the Year Bart Walker, Northwest Florida boasts five All-Panhandle Conference performers in Chanaya Pinto (first team), Last-Tear Poa (first team), Masengo Mutanda (first team), Kynadi Kuykendoll (second team), and Inès Piper (second team).
NWF will take on eighth-seeded Eastern Florida at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Raider Arena. The Titans finished this season 12-7 overall and 9-5 in the Central Conference. Led by sophomore guard Stephanie Torres, who averaged a team-best 16.4 points per game, EFSC ranked second in Region VIII and 18th in the nation with 7.8 three-pointers per game.
The Raiders sport the nation's top defense allowing just 47.1 points per game. Northwest Florida is also extremely efficient on the offensive side shooting 46.9 percent as a team.
