Chanaya Pinto Named NJCAA All-American
NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida State sophomore Chanaya Pinto has been named an NJCAA All-American, the association announced Tuesday.
Pinto averaged 14.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in leading the Raiders to their first-ever NJCAA Women's Basketball National Championship.
The 6-1 forward scored in double digits 19 times, posted 10 double-doubles, and averaged 15.5 points in Northwest Florida's four games in the national tournament.
Pinto was named FCSAA/Region VIII Player of the Week twice and is making her second appearance as an NJCAA All-American after being named to the third team last season.
The native of Maputo, Mozambique shot 51.4 percent from the field in 26.3 minutes per game. Pinto was second on the team with 2.7 assists per game. She also paced the FCSAA and was 22nd in the nation with 216 total rebounds. Her 147 defensive rebounds were 12th most nationally.
