Northwest Florida Holds Off No. 9 Gulf Coast for Road Win, 60–54

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — No. 4 Northwest Florida State women's basketball earned a gritty road victory Wednesday night, outlasting No. 9 Gulf Coast State, 60–54, to improve to 15–2 overall and 2–1 in Panhandle Conference play.

The contest was tightly contested from start to finish, with neither team able to establish consistent separation. Gulf Coast controlled much of the opening half and held the edge for a large portion of the second quarter, but Northwest Florida answered just before the break. A clutch three-pointer from Jadah White at the buzzer tied the game at 27, sending the teams into halftime deadlocked.

The back-and-forth nature of the game carried into the third quarter, as the lead changed hands several times. Both defenses tightened, limiting clean looks, and once again neither side could pull away. After three quarters of play, the score remained knotted at 43, setting up a decisive fourth period.

Northwest Florida made its move late in the final frame. With just over three minutes remaining, Niylia Wilkins converted an and-one layup to give the Raiders a narrow lead. Gulf Coast stayed within striking distance, but turnovers at critical moments proved costly for the Commodores. The Raiders capitalized with timely baskets down the stretch, extending the lead to six points in the final seconds and sealing the road victory.

Wilkins led Northwest Florida offensively, finishing with a team-high 16 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting performance. Khoudia Diagne added 14 points, continuing her consistent scoring presence in the paint. Kamryn Corporan delivered a strong all-around effort, posting a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with seven points.

The game was a physical defensive battle, as both teams struggled to find rhythm offensively. Northwest Florida and Gulf Coast each shot under 40 percent from the field and combined for 38 turnovers. Scoring largely came in the paint and at the free-throw line, with the two teams combining to make just five three-pointers while shooting 15.0 percent from beyond the arc. Rebounding was also closely contested, with Gulf Coast holding a slim 40–38 edge on the glass.

With the win, Northwest Florida moves into second place in the Panhandle Conference standings. The Raiders will have an opportunity to climb to the top of the league when they return home to host No. 1 Chipola on Saturday. Tip-off at Raider Arena is set for 2:00 p.m.
