Northwest Florida Cruises to Sixth-Straight Win With 20-Point Route Over Pensacola
NICEVILLE, Fla. — Northwest Florida State women's basketball continued it's impressive run of play Saturday afternoon with a 20-point victory over Pensacola State, earning their sixth-straight victory, moving them one win closer to another conference championship.
Northwest Florida controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 5–0 lead as Khoudia Diagne scored the first five points of the game on a jumper, a layup, and a free throw. Northwest Florida's defense dictated the pace in the opening quarter, forcing multiple missed shots and turnovers while piling up blocks from Diagne and Niylia Wilkins. A late three-pointer from Carrington Jones helped the Raiders take a 22–10 advantage into the second quarter.
Pensacola State trimmed the deficit briefly early in the second, but Northwest Florida answered with an efficient stretch on both ends of the floor. Diagne and Jones combined for quick baskets off steals, and the Raiders closed the half strong, extending their lead to 33–19 at the break after a Diagne three and two late free throws.
The momentum carried into the third quarter, where Northwest Florida used crisp ball movement and second-chance points to pull away. Jones scored from inside and the line, Jadah White knocked down a key three, and Aurora Toyomasu added a triple to stretch the margin to more than 20. Despite occasional scoring spurts from Pensacola State, the Raiders' defense remained relentless, holding their opponent to just 12 points in the period while building a 53–31 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Northwest Florida maintained control with strong rebounding and continued defensive pressure. Jones hit another three, Ka'Zharia Johnson finished through contact, and Wilkins added a late bucket to seal the victory. Pensacola State was limited to just 12 points in the final frame as the Raiders closed out a dominant 63–43 win.
Jones erupted for a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers, shooting an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor while going a perfect 7-for-7 at the free-throw line. Khoudia Diagne added another strong all-around effort, finishing with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and two steals.
Northwest Florida shot 46.8 percent from the field and controlled the paint, outrebounding the Pirates by 16. The Raiders' defense was just as effective, holding Pensacola to 30.4 percent shooting and forcing 12 turnovers.
With one week remaining in the regular season, the Raiders are well positioned, needing just one win to secure their eighth consecutive conference championship. Northwest Florida will travel to Panama City on Wednesday for a third matchup with Gulf Coast before returning home Saturday to close the regular season against Chipola.
