Bio
Butch Pierre enters his second season as the men's basketball head coach.
Pierre began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State University in 1986. He has since then accumulated over 30 years of extensive experience and knowledge in the intricacies of running a successful men’s basketball program. During his career, Pierre has established himself as one of the premier recruiters and coaches in the country, having recruited some of the top recruiting classes in college basketball. These classes have yielded nine conference championships, 12 NCAA Tournament (including a Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Four appearance), and three NIT appearances.
Most recently, Pierre served as the Director of Player Development at the University of Memphis, under future Hall of Fame Coach Tubby Smith.
Pierre received both his undergraduate (1984) and master's degrees (1986) in education from Mississippi State University, where he was a four-year starter at point guard for the Bulldogs. A native of Darrow, Louisiana, Pierre and his wife, Clemmie, have three children together – daughter, Langley, and twin sons, Josh and Joseph Pierre III.
